Message from Chairman | ![]() |
It is with great pride and honor that I assume the role of Chairman of the Hong Kong Lung Foundation (HKLF) for the term 2025 - 2027. HKLF has long been a beacon of excellence and dedication within Hong Kong's respiratory health community. Our commitment, alongside our sister societies, the Hong Kong Thoracic Society and CHEST Delegation Hong Kong and Macau, is unwavering in our mission to enhance academic collaboration, public education, research advancement, development of local talents and academic exchanges with the Mainland and other countries, all aimed at elevating respiratory health standards in Hong Kong.
Year 2024 is a fruitful year for the Respiratory Societies of Hong Kong. Under the superb leadership of our former Chairmen, Dr. Fanny Ko and Dr. James Ho, we successfully held the 28th Congress of the Asian Pacific Society of Respirology (APSR 2024) in Hong Kong. The event drew an attendance of nearly 2,000 delegates from over 46 countries and regions, who came together to engage in a rich and insightful exchange of knowledge and expertise with internationally acclaimed speakers. It is truly exhilarating to witness our contributions flourish year after year.
As we transition into the post-COVID-19 era, HKLF's dedication to broadening our focus on a wider spectrum of lung diseases has never been more crucial. A recent survey from February 2025 underscored a significant gap in public awareness concerning critical conditions like pneumonia and chronic lung diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and pulmonary fibrosis. In response, HKLF has taken decisive action to increase public interest and enhance educational efforts, ensuring our community is well-equipped to tackle these health challenges.
In our relentless pursuit to bridge this knowledge gap, HKLF, in collaboration with our sister societies, has successfully organised a two-day health carnival in March 2025. This initiative was not only a testament to our commitment but also a vibrant platform for public education in an engaging and enjoyable way. Through strengthened collaborations and optimised resource integration, we are creating powerful synergies that lead to impactful outcomes. Moreover, HKLF is actively exploring further opportunities for health education to bolster public understanding and awareness.
As we look to the future, we are thrilled to mark the 30th anniversary of HKLF in 2026. This significant milestone offers a unique opportunity to deepen our collaborative endeavors with the community. With the guidance and trust of our experienced and dedicated Board, HKLF will continue to work tirelessly towards a brighter future for the respiratory community and society as a whole, reaffirming our commitment to improving respiratory health across Hong Kong.
