Mr Lo Kun Ming - in appreciation for his contributions to the work of the respiratory societies
While majority of the members in the respiratory societies may not know Mr. Lo, he has made special contribution to the work of the respiratory societies. His dedication and wealth of experience in lung function testing made him the ideal person to assist us in the initiation of the Lung function project for Update reference values in adults in Hong Kong in 2000, conducted under the auspices of the three respiratory societies . Mr. Lo contributed his rich technical expertise towards standardisation of the procedures of lung function testing among the eight participating laboratories in the territory-wide study. He liased with staff of the lung function laboratories to ensure we uniformly adhere to prevailing international recommendations for testing. In the process, “Ming Gor” has made many friends in the respiratory profession in Hong Kong, including doctors and nursing or technical staff , some of whom have kept up regular contact with him after his retirement.
May he Rest in Peace.

Farewell Ming Gor
In the Pulmonary Function Laboratory of Queen Mary Hospital, one could always hear Ming Gor’s familiar and steady voice: “Blow hard, blow hard, blow all the way!” That phrase accompanied countless patients and became part of the background melody in the growth of respiratory physicians. As a veteran technician of the laboratory, Ming Gor was admired not because he sought recognition, but because of his dedication and meticulous work, which earned him respect and affection from all.
More than ten years ago, I was fortunate to collaborate with Ming Gor again after he had retired, inviting him to join our private hospital and train colleagues in the pulmonary function laboratory. This opportunity allowed his wealth of experience and wisdom to be passed on. Such transmission is essential in every profession, and Ming Gor embodied the role of a true mentor- patient, rigorous and selfless.
His presence has long been woven into our memories. His voice reminds us that medicine is not only about technique, but also about responsibility and heart. That spirit will continue to live on in every pulmonary function test, in every patient’s breath.
